According to the Pattaya Business and Tourism Association, the number of Chinese tourists visiting Pattaya in December 2023 increased by 70% compared to the same period in 2022.
This is welcome news for the local economy, which heavily relies on tourism. Many businesses in Pattaya, including hotels, restaurants, and shops, have struggled during the pandemic as international travel came to a halt. The return of Chinese tourists is helping to revive the economy and provide much-needed jobs.
Chinese tourists are also being welcomed back with open arms by the Thai government, which has implemented measures to ensure their safety, including mandatory COVID-19 testing upon arrival and contact tracing.
The Chinese government has also designated Pattaya as a “safe travel destination,” which has helped to boost confidence in travel among Chinese citizens. With the Chinese New Year holiday approaching, it is expected that even more Chinese tourists will visit Pattaya in the coming months.
